Polestar has released its second annual sustainability report, showing progress towards ambitious climate targets. Last year, Polestar reduced greenhouse gas emissions per car sold by 6 percent by increasing efficiency and using renewable energy.

Polestar demonstrates that corporate growth and climate goals are compatible. The Polestar company has set itself the objective of developing an utterly carbon-neutral car by 2030, halving the CO2 emissions per car sold between 2020 and 2030, and becoming carbon-neutral in its entire value chain by 2040.

Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar: "We work on our sustainability strategy with every step. Goals that are 10 or 20 years in the future may be vague. That is why having an accurate breakdown of what we are doing and what we are doing towards that goal is so important. This decade is all about climate evolution. Evolution and improvement must constantly happen now! We cannot afford to wait. I am proud that we have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 6 percent per car sold."

The 2021 report looks back on another milestone year, launching the Polestar 0 Project – Polestar's ambitious goal of building a genuinely carbon-neutral car by 2030. First partner companies working with Polestar to achieve this visionary goal have already been announced.

"What gets measured gets done," adds Fredrika Klarén, Director at Polestar. "Sustainability reporting is custom to the transparency we live at Polestar. We observe alignment with our ambitious goals with the annual reports and show that we are doing what we promise."

To ensure transparency concerning CO2 footprint and further promote risk materials, Polestar 2021 introduced an industry-first Product Sustainability Statement, clearly showing the sustainability information for the Polestar 2 electric car at all locations. In addition to cobalt, which is already traceable in Polestar 2 batteries from material source to finished product, Polestar's ongoing partnership with Circulor now includes mica traceability via blockchain technology.

In addition, in 2021, experts were appointed for all four of Polestar's strategic sustainability areas: carbon neutrality, transparency, circular economy, and inclusion. Furthermore, polestar employees worldwide attended several training sessions throughout 2021 to provide internal education and raise sustainability awareness. These events will continue in 2022.

Polestar was the first car brand to join the Exponential Roadmap Initiative, a scientist-led, cross-industry alliance dedicated to halving global emissions by 2030. Polestar is also involved in the United Nations "Race to Zero" campaign.
