This year, BMW M, the name of BMW's most powerful and sporty car, can look back on 50 years of history. The anniversary year is also an excellent time to look forward to the first BMW M GmbH electric car.

The Gran Coupe BMW i4 M50 and the BMW iX M60 SUV are electric BMWs with M in their model names. The BMW i7 M70, a high-end sedan, will join them next year. All of them have the well-known BMW style of performance and driving dynamics, but the letter M has more to offer.

BMW M GmbH, which makes the most "raw" M models, is now pulling back the curtain and announcing that the first all-electric "pure" M model is on the way. This means that the list of things you can expect from dynamic properties and performance has grown even longer.

After a series of intense development and testing phases, first on virtual models and then on test benches, testing is now being done on the road to see how both the hardware and software work in real life. The engineers at BMW M built a particular test car for all of this.

The body of the test car is based on the BMW i4 M50, but it has been changed, and the chassis for the electric powertrain is different. In typical BMW M style, the wide wheel arches show that the front and rear axles made driving fun and exciting. The car has a BMW M3/M4 suspension set-up that has been changed to fit the vehicle. Inside the test car, a lot of measuring equipment is used to look at every detail in different driving situations. With the help of the test car, the theory from the programming can be put to the test in a moving lab, and the results can be used to improve the design and programming.

The four electric motors, which are connected by an integrated control unit for dynamic M xDrive all-wheel drive, are the heart of the test car. When each of the four wheels is driven by its electric motor, it opens up new ways for the forces to be distributed that are stepless, precise, and fast. Power is sent to the wheels based on the position of the accelerator pedal, the steering wheel's angle, the wheels' speed, and a number of other parameters. Within milliseconds, this means that the forces and torques of the electric motors can be adjusted so precisely that the pressure on the pedal can achieve a level of responsiveness that is not possible with traditional drive systems. This makes it possible for future electric sports cars from BMW M GmbH to be driven in a gracious way.

BMW M GmbH shows its development skills and, by extension, its ability to bring the spirit of the letter M from cars with combustion engines to upcoming electric models, where dynamics, agility, and precision are still the defining characteristics. The work that is being done with the test car is essential to make sure that future electric models from BMW GmbH will have the same things that have made BMW's M cars stand out for the past 50 years: performance and experience through forces and dynamics that allow controllable handling right up to the limits. @via BMW M's electric future.
