It is not only the Danes who love the popular Ford Kuga Plug-in Hybrid. The rest of Europe also shares the enthusiasm for the car, which is now the best-selling plug-in hybrid car in Europe in the first half of 2021.

- At Ford, we work for an electric future, and the fact that the Kuga Plug-in Hybrid is the best-selling plug-in hybrid in Europe shows that our customers want to be part of the exciting journey we are on, says Roelant de Waard, general manager, Passenger Vehicles, Ford of Europe.

Demand for the Ford Kuga Plug-in Hybrid was stable in June when sales amounted to more than 6,300 cars in Europe. At the same time, all sales of the Ford Kuga Plug-in Hybrid reached nearly 16,000 in the second quarter. That is a third more than the nearest competing model sold in the same period.

Across Europe, the trend is clear - the demand for plug-in hybrids is rising. In the second quarter, sales of plug-in hybrids accounted for 8.4 % of all new cars sold in Europe. That is an increase of more than 255 % compared to the same period last year.

In Denmark, customers have long been enthusiastic about the coveted Ford Kuga Plug-in Hybrid. Over the past year, the car has been voted the best-selling passenger car of the month several times, and it is also the best-selling passenger car in the first half of 2021. Moreover, brand new figures from July show that the demand for the popular plug-in hybrid continues - here, the Ford Kuga Plug-in Hybrid is the best-selling plug-in hybrid on the Danish market.

- We have hit the market at just the right time with the Kuga Plug-in Hybrid. So much has already happened to the hybrid and electric car market since the launch of the Kuga Plug-in Hybrid last spring. That it is so popular puts a thick line under that it with its combination of good driving characteristics, lots of equipment, excellent design and not least a sharp price, is precisely what the people want when they have to choose a plug-in hybrid, Jens Olsen, responsible for passenger cars in Ford Denmark, has stated.

The benefits of plug-in hybrids are also evident. For example, the Ford Kuga Plug-in Hybrid ranges up to 56 km on pure electricity (WLTP), both a comfortable and fuel-efficient choice. Customers can also choose when they want to drive on pure electricity or petrol. At the same time, the battery can be charged automatically using regenerative charging technology, where energy during the car's braking is collected and used again - energy that is usually lost.

Kuga customers enjoy driving on electricity and charge their cars.

According to anonymised data from Ford, Kuga customers take advantage of charging their cars and driving on pure electricity. As much as 49 % of customers' kilometres travelled have been covered by electricity alone.

- We are firmly convinced that our customers buy hybrid cars to take advantage of driving on electricity. This confirms all data from our Kuga customers, which precisely shows that they choose to drive as much as possible on electricity rather than petrol, says Roelant de Waard, general manager, Passenger Vehicles, Ford of Europe.

Facts about Ford's Kuga Plug-in Hybrid customers

Ford has, among other things, collected anonymous driving histories from Kuga customers to optimise customer satisfaction and meet customer wishes and needs. Against this background, Ford can conclude the following:

- Customers have high utilisation of the car's electric driving characteristics. Almost half (49 %) of customers' total kilometres travelled this year have been covered by electricity.

- Kuga customers' shorter trips are made on pure electricity. More than two-thirds of customers' journeys have been trips of less than 50 km. The average ride in the Kuga Plug-in Hybrid is 52 km, so it is a distance that can be done on pure electricity, as the car has a range of up to 56 km.

- Customers feel safe charging their Kuga Plug-in Hybrid, and they make frequent charges at charging stations that are also easily accessible. On average, for every 100 days of driving in a Kuga Plug-in Hybrid, 89 recharges been made.

- Customers take advantage of the fact that it is cheaper to charge at night. 45 % of all charging takes place at night, which clearly indicates that customers' habits of charging their phones and tablets at night have also been passed on to the charging of their cars.

Ford announced earlier this year that all of its passenger cars would have a hybrid or fully electric variant by mid-2026, while all passenger cars are expected to be fully electric in 2030. Ford's first fully electric car, the Mustang Mach-E, is like the Kuga Plug-in Hybrid has been received with enthusiasm by customers. In the second quarter of 2021 alone, more than 5,300 Ford Mustang Mach-Es have been delivered to European customers. In addition, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has just become the best-selling passenger car in Norway.

Ford's electrified passenger cars also include the Mondeo Hybrid, S-Max Hybrid, Galaxy Hybrid, Explorer Plug-in Hybrid and the mildly hybrid Puma, Fiesta and Focus EcoBoost Hybrid.
