In 2019, Ferrari introduced the SF90 Stradale, the Italian automaker's first series plug-in hybrid supercar. Ferrari has now designed an online event to unveil the new SF90 Spider, the retractable version of the SF90 Stradale.

The new Ferrari sports car will be equipped with a retractable roof that can be controlled while driving (Ferrari does not specify the speed at which it can be operated, but in the case of the 812 GTS, the Italians disclosed a value of 45 km / h). It takes only 14 seconds to raise or lower it.

Ferrari claims that the retractable roof structure and operating mechanism are both compact and light, making it 40 kilograms lighter than other conventional solutions and taking up 100 liters less space.

The new SF90 Spider, like the SF90 Stradale, will feature a hybrid plug-in system.

The new Ferrari SF90 Spider utilizes a 4.0-liter V8 engine with 780 horsepower and three electric motors (two electric motors are placed on the front axle and one on the rear axle). The SF90 Spider PHEV system produces 1,000 horsepower and can be controlled differently based on the four driving modes: eDrive, Hybrid, Performance, and Qualify. Only in Qualify operating mode is a maximum of 1,000 horsepower available.

The Italians used an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the overall weight of the supercar is 1,670 kilos (+100 kilograms over the SF90 Stradale). According to the datasheet, the new Ferrari SF90 Spider supercar with a retractable roof can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 7 seconds. However, the maximum speed is limited to 340 km/h.

The Ferrari SF90 Spider will travel up to 25 kilometers in electric mode thanks to a 7.9 kWh battery.
